NRW.BANK supports go.Rheinland and Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Ruhr (VRR) with about 350 million euros for the acquisition of up to 90 new S-Bahn trains. The electric railcars will operate on the suburban railway network in the Rhineland and the Ruhr area and will gradually replace old vehicles.

Modern and well-equipped vehicles, such as those now ordered by go.Rheinland and VRR for the S-Bahn in the Rhineland, are key to the attractiveness and thus the use of local public transport. The first new trains are expected to enter service in mid-2029 as part of a trial run with passengers on the S-Bahn lines in the Rhineland, with the remaining trains following successively until December 2033. ALSTOM Transport Deutschland GmbH is responsible for the production and maintenance of the new vehicles. go.Rheinland and VRR have ordered up to 90 trains, which they will make available to the railway companies. go.Rheinland and VRR will invest a single-digit billion amount in the new trains.
