NRW.Venture, the venture capital fund of NRW.BANK, has acquired a stake in EINHUNDERT Energie GmbH from Cologne. The investment is part of a Series A financing in which the start-up raised a total of 6.5 million euros from investors. EINHUNDERT is a fully digitalised full-service provider for tenant electricity, i.e. solar power that is generated and consumed directly on site.
“Especially with a view to the energy transition and rising prices, solar tenant electricity has huge economic potential – and this consequently also applies to EINHUNDERT’s business model. The supply concept is good not only for the climate but also for consumers, who no longer need to pay fees for the use of public power grids,” says Dr. Thomas Raueiser from the NRW.Venture Team. “This is why NRW.Venture was happy to participate in the financing round, as it allowed us to make an important contribution to EINHUNDERT’s continued growth.”
All-in package for scalable tenant electricity
Established in 2017, EINHUNDERT offers real estate companies an all-in package for scalable tenant electricity across the entire building portfolio – from the suitability assessment of the buildings to installation of the photovoltaic systems to the ongoing power supply. The use of digital electricity meters and a proprietary software platform greatly automates the process.
“Our ambition is to be the driving force behind the electrification and decarbonisation of the building stock in Germany,” says company founder and CEO Dr. Ernesto Garnier. “Over the coming years, we will transform thousands of properties into digitally operated solar power plants using photovoltaic systems and digital electricity meters.”
Previous investment via NRW.SeedCap
NRWA.BANK held shares in EINHUNDERT already prior to the investment via its venture fund. The Bank had previously invested in the start-up under the NRW.SeedCap programme. Under this programme, the Bank provides equity capital together with a business angel, in the same amount and at the same conditions (pari passu) as the latter.
